An accidental click brought me to your site. I’m in Northern Michigan – Petoskey – for the week where the weather has been unseasonably warm – though raining today – snow by Friday.

What a great surprise to see your banner image open and then the other fall colors from CA – I live in Danville. Wonderful commentary on the change of season.

Sorry. I’ve now made it easier to open the .pdf map by making the link more apparent. You need a .pdf reader to see the map. I suggest Googling Adobe Reader and downloading that free .pdf reader. Then go back to the blog and click on the map. It should open.

Thanks for the comment, Lois. Chinese pistache has beautiful range of color from lime to yellow, to orange to flame red. We have three clustered in our yard. They have become a popular landscape tree and stay moderately sized until late in life when they can get big. Another colorful ornamental tree is the liquidambar.

If you go up to the mountains there’s plenty of fall color in Southern California. The black oaks have turned around places like Crestline, Idyllwild and Palomar Mountain.

Thanks for the pic and ID of the Chinese Pistache tree. I got some shots of some colorful ones near my workplace in Fremont yesterday, and was having trouble identifying it. Then your post showed up with exactly what I needed. I’ve been enjoying this blog and reading about the color that can be found in Califonria.

I renamed the file and provided more detailed directions on how to open it. Please try again by going back to the original blog, then clicking on the orange “San Francisco Botanical Garden Map” at the top of the blog. You’ll need to click again for it to open to the map and you must have a .pdf reader to see it. Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free .pdf reader available on the web. Good luck and have fun finding the color in GG Park.
