Fields of Gold in the Hope Valley

Sorenson’s Resort in the Hope Valley posted this video recently.  It shows the intense color to be seen in weeks to come in the Sierra.  With the snow behind us, scenes like this will be playing out this weekend in the Eastern Sierra along U.S. 395.

Hi, i had planned on taking a trip to june lake this weekend but it seems that after the snow storm, highway 120 (tioga pass) and sonora pass are now closed. based on your past experience, do you think those passes will open up by saturday? or do you think i should cancel my trip all together?

      Nicole,
Of the three routes, SR 120 is the least likely to open after a snowfall, because it’s the highest and passes through a national park with limited patrol and maintenance staff. Here’s a link to road conditions on the mountain passes: http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/mtnhwys.htm. The last we checked, Hwys 88/89 are open, though have restrictions due to construction. Lovely color appears along this route, though has not been reported as yet. The best color is presently found in the eastern canyons of Mono and Inyo Counties.
