San Bernardino Nat’l Forest – Full Peak
Color spotter Lisa Wilkerson-Willis sends these beautiful photographs of the Aspen Grove near Big Bear in the San Bernardino National Forest. These are the best shots we’ve seen of this lovely forest. Wow! Whoever believed there is no fall color in Southern California, just hasn’t gone leaf peeping near Big Bear. Good goin’, Lisa! What is the foilage color key at the top left side of the web page for? Is there a map somewhere of CA that is color coded to correspond with this key?
Thanks
Russ, For the moment, there is no corresponding map. It’s mostly there to visualize the scale we use – a tip of the hat to Maine which posts a similar key on their site. I anticipate that we’ll change the scale next year, as The Weather Channel has modified their scale. Also, The Sacramento Bee has devised a key that is superb (found in the link to their site at left). Apologies if it was confusing.
Hi John or other color spotters:
Thanks for putting together all these useful information.
Does anyone know the current fall color around the Big Bear Lake? I want to try this weekend before the rain/snow hits the area. Much appreciated and have a wonderful weekend!
I’ve not heard in a week, David. Though considering that it was at full peak more than a week ago, I’m guessing it’s mostly past peak, though spots of color will be seen in the forest.
