Whitney Portal

Whitney Portal (9/28/21) Mark Harding

It’s dramatic and has the most spectacular cascade of fall color in the state, but few color spotters ever visit it. That’s because they’re too anxious to get to Bishop Creek Canyon and just pass it by.

Whitney Portal was not overlooked by Southern California color spotter Mark Harding today. He emailed asking if there was anything he could get for us on his trip to the East Side.

Whitney Portal, was the reply.

It was just good fortune that Mark was overnighting in Lone Pine, and look what he captured.
